The cool factor does not last long, take it from me. I traded one of my Carbon 15's for a HK P7 and am glad I did. The P7 is a marvel of engineering and is now my carry pistol. A pistol version of a long gun, especially a magazine fed semiauto, is going to be a bulky and unwieldy thing. If ya want the ultimate, get a Mosin Nagant cut down to a pistol. 7.62 x 54r will definitely stop the BG's at personal range.

Talking Draco

These do need a little attention straight out of the box, if you want them to be anything potentially useful.

you'll need to drill and mount a sling attachment, which isn't hard but is time consuming, and you'll need to dremel off the muzzle nut and replace it with a real brake if you want to keep recoil under control in any way.

Other than that, they're really quite impressive. They're not like WASR's. They are Romanian made, as far as I know they are converted AIMR carbines, which in their natural form would've been full auto and had a folding stock. Now obviously they are semi and have the stock removed. I could be wrong on that, but the sight block looks just like them.

They are also built on a correct receiver and are imported for double stacks, not cut out when they arrive like WASR's.

The finish is still ugly as sin, but they're Romanian, what do you expect?

They're surprisingly accurate at closer ranges, but are very difficult to aim using the iron sights. Mainly because they are difficult to stabilize.

With all that said, my Draco is definitely my "Kickin' Ass in the woods when the SHTF" gun. They're accurate enough for that application, and can take any kind of abuse--as an AK should. Plus, with the sling on it, it's easy to lug around all day.

It's also what I break out when the shooting range is too crowded. These things breathe fire and are as loud as a Mosin Nagant with a good krink brake installed. Few people can tolerate that noise for a steady succession of 30 rounds.

I couldn't bring up a pic here at work, but this is a decent youtube review. Gives you an idea of what they look like and how they handle:

My 2 cents:

- its not an SBR or a short cut to a "poor man's krink" (not having the stock is a big factor)

- without the stock it seems pretty useless other than pointblank range, but if that is your intent, why not get a Yugo under folder and you can have both a short range compact AK, plus an AK you can shoulder?

- it does a vague "collector's" angle.... but I think as TX put it, the cool factor would soon evaporate. I have a feeling you'd feel pretty foolish with this thing at the range beyond the novelty of it.
