I'm shopping for one right now (breaking in my newly acquired FFL 03 )...

I notice there aren't nearly as many online resources for these as there are for the Mosin/Nagant rifles.

I'd appreciate it if somebody would chime in about specific markings, dates of manufacture or anything else I oughtta be looking for.

Should be here by Friday or Saturday - more pics then.
I was bummed to see that the Imperial markings had been scraped. Especially after seeing that fine example you posted in the other thread...

It's pretty hard to find them with Imperial markings. If you got caught with one in the USSR you were suspected of being Counter Revolutionary, a White or a Monarchist. First class ticket to the Gulag in the Stalin era. American troops who were in Murmansk and Archangel during the intervention 1918-1920 picked up a few as souvenirs.

There is a good book on that period. The Day they almost bombed Moscow by Dobson and Miller.

When I was a kid a neighbor of my great uncle had a water cooled Russian Maxim Machine gun he brought back from Russia in 1919. He had actually been in fire fights with the Reds while in Archangel. When he showed me that beast, he told me I could not let anyone know he had it. He was a crusty sort so I suspect he did not register it at any point. He was in his seventies then, I have no idea where that gun is today. Hopefully not crushed...

I always think about how many fellow Russians those pistols executed.

I have one of the the .32 auto cylinders. They often need a little work by gunsmiths to work properly...

I really wish russia would dump a ton of surplus ammo for these over here, bring the cost of ammo down. Or start making good plinking ammo, steal or brass cased. I have one, and would shoot it more if ammo were available......
