I have a supply of SKS rifles and am turning my attention to ammo inventory.
I see various choices of this cartridge advertised. I have purchased a few spam cans of FMJ. Now I am pondering the 154 or 124 grain soft points or 123 grain hollow points and any other choices out there. If you were stocking up for whatever may come... SHTF, Hillary banning ammo etc... would a hollow point make a better choice? Defending your ground or hunting food... hollow point or soft point? 154 grain or 124 etc? Thoughts? |

Get into reloading.
If you're shooting multiple SKSs and maybe an AK or two also and you're also concerned about different loadings and SHTF, then it's time to reload.

Silver Bear 125gr Soft point. Hollow points tend to come apart. I have used SPs to very good effect on animals. Never cared for HP ammo. Never tried the heavies, but they would seem to be better for suppressed use.

I have found SAG ammo to be very good and not expensive .i get my 223/556 from them in bulk as well as my 7.62. its made in russia but comes by way of the ukraine(circumvents the import ban slapped on by the short timer who now occupies the WH.)its olive greenish, lacquer coating in FMJ and is cheap.they deliver FAST and have a HUGE variety.

Pick up as much milsurp 7.62x39 as you can afford. It all shoots well, and I've shot some rusty old rounds without any issues....

I have Wolf, Barnaul Mil-Spec, Red Army Standard and have shot a few others like Tula, Silver Bear SP & Golden Tiger. None of the heavy rounds though, just the usual 122-125 grain stuff.
No more HP for me, I never got any reliable expansion out of the steel cased stuff, isn't worth it to me but to each his/her own! I have a friend in Arkansas that has taken Deer with Wolf black box FMJ with no problems. I agree with majormadmax, get what you can and as much of it as you can afford!
